KXLN only Spanish-language station in Houston to receive award
Houston, TX -- KXLN-TV Univision 45 was awarded two Emmys in this year’s 2005 Emmy Awards by the National Television Academy, Lone Star Chapter. This achievement marked KXLN as the only Spanish-language Emmy recipient in the city of Houston. Noticias 45 Univision received the two Emmys in the following categories: “Continuing Coverage” and “Craft Achievement-News Editor”.
“The awards recognize the journalistic work by our colleagues. Work that not only benefits the Spanish-speaking community we serve, but that is also a prestigious recognition of the work by fellow industry colleagues,” said Noticias 45 News Director Rey Chavez. KXLN Vice-President and General Manager Craig Bland added, “This recognition makes all of us at KXLN so very proud of the dedication and hard work that our news team puts forth everyday.”
The award-winning entries are:
“Trágica Jornada” (Tragic Journey) – The Victoria Trial, a news story about the more than 70 immigrants who were coming to the United States in search of the American Dream, of whom nineteen died locked inside an 18-wheeler in Victoria, Texas.
