Mexican Independence Day Parade
Los Angeles, CA -- WHAT: Univision 34 KMEX-TV presents the 45th edition of the traditional East Los Angeles Mexican Independence Day Parade. Nearly 200,000 spectators are expected to line the 2.5-mile parade route. Each year, the Latino community comes together in celebrating Mexico’s independence at this colorful and festive event organized by the Mexican Civic and Patriotic Committee.
WHEN: Sunday, September 8, 2002 Broadcast on Univision 34 KMEX-TV (Ch.34) from 2-4 p.m.
WHERE: The parade, which will be broadcast from the streets of East Los Angeles, will begin on the corner of Lorena and Cesar Chavez Blvd. in East Los Angeles, proceeding eastbound on Cesar Chavez and ending at the intersection of Cesar Chavez and Mednik Avenue.
WHO: Rolando Nichols, Socorro Cruz and Guillermo Quiroz from “Noticias 34/Univision” will serve as this year’s parade commentators.
The event will feature trumpeting marching bands, rhythmic dance groups, celebrities, elected officials along with fabulously decorated floats and vintage cars.
WHY: The Mexican Independence Day Parade is a tradition in the Los Angeles community dating back to 1957 and serves as a way of commemorating this year’s 192nd anniversary since Mexico claimed its independence from Spain.
