Univision Makes History with its Primetime November Sweep Results
#1 Spanish-Language network attracts more Hispanic adults 18-49 than
ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, WB, and Telemundo combined
Miami, FL -- Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE: UVN), the leading Spanish-language media company in the U.S., today announced that during the November Sweep, the Univision Network delivered its highest primetime audience levels in any Sweep period in history, among Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 18-34. Compared to the last November Sweep, Univision increased its viewership 6% among Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 13% among Hispanic Adults 18-34.
In addition, Univision averaged more Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 18-34 than the combined primetime audiences of ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, WB, and Telemundo, and broadcast 29 out of the top 30 most-watched primetime programs on both English-language or Spanish-language television during the November Sweep. The only program in the top 30 not on Univision was a semi-final Futbol Liga Mexicana match on sister network TeleFutura.
Univision’s novelas bolstered the network’s success, as the 7-10pm block boasted sensational gains of 13% and 23% among Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 18-34, respectively. Univision’s primetime novela audience was almost four times its distant Spanish-language competitor Telemundo’s Adult 18-49 audience, and almost five times its Adult 18-34 audience.
Univision’s much anticipated reality program “Lo Veremos Todo con Niurka y Bobby,” debuted on November 9th with a very strong start and sustained its popularity throughout the month. As compared to a year ago, it outdelivered the time period’s Hispanic Adult 18-49 and 18-34 audience by 12% and 19% respectively.
Two long-time favorites – “Cristina” and “Don Francisco Presenta” – garnered their highest Sweep performance ever among Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 18-34. As compared to last year, “Cristina” posted increases of 38% among Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 49% among Hispanic Adults 18-34. “Don Francisco Presenta” also saw growth, as its audiences increased 6% and 13%, respectively.
“This was a fantastic November Sweep for the Univision Network, and I am extremely proud of our record-setting successes,” said Otto Padron, Vice-President, Programming and Promotions, Univision Network. “The popularity of our world-class programming, combined with the explosive growth of the Hispanic population and our audience’s distinct preference for our offerings, has helped Univision to consistently deliver more Hispanic viewers than any other network – English- or Spanish-language.”
