Univision 23 Receives the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce "Environmental Practices Award" for their Special Environmental News Segment "Protegiendo tu Ambiente"

Miami, FL -- Univision 23 South Florida’s number one Spanish-Language television station, has been awarded the "2002 Environmental Practices Award" presented by the Environmental Practices Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Univision 23 earned this prestigious award through the outstanding work of news reporter Paola Elorza and producer Luis Espinoza in the environmental segment entitled "Protegiendo Tu Ambiente" (Protecting your Enviorment) which airs during Univision 23’s Sunday evening newscast at 6pm. Through this special segment, Univision 23 is aggressively taking the lead in educating South Florida’s Hispanic audience on the importance of protecting and taking care of our environment.  “Protegiendo Tu Ambiente” addresses a variety of environmental issues that can affect daily life such as the possible contamination of school children from the diesel emissions of their own school buses, and the lack of trees in certain areas that can deprive communities of many key environmental benefits.  The segment has also showcased some of South Florida’s best eco-tourism spots such as Shark Valley and Biscayne Bay.

In the words of producer Luis Espinoza, “The environment is like a friend who we know we need around, but we don't care much about.”   “Protegiendo Tu Ambiente” will hopefully raise a much-needed consciousness of how much Mother Earth really needs us to protect her,” he adds. Univision 23 accepted the 2002 Environmental Practices Award during a special Chamber of Commerce luncheon on October 2nd.
