Univision Presents Health Special On Autism Saturday, September 29
Miami, FL -- Univision will air a half-hour special “Viviendo con AutismoˇEntérate!” (Living with Autism…Get the Facts!) hosted by Univision’s morning news anchor Neida Sandoval on Saturday, September 29 (check your local listings for time). As part of Univision’s Peabody award winning health initiative “Salud es Vida…ˇEntérate!” (Lead a Healthy Life…Get the Facts!), this special will explore the potential causes, symptoms and intervention programs available to help families with early detection.
According to a study released in 2007 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, autism is the most common developmental disorder affecting an estimated 1 in 150 births. It is a lifelong developmental disability that affects more children than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined, with increased prevalence in boys than girls at a ratio of four to one. “Viviendo con AutismoˇEntérate!” features families impacted by autism, including how their children were first diagnosed, how their siblings learned to live with a brother or sister with autism, and the importance of early detection in achieving optimum developmental results. The special will also provide advice from leading health experts and highlight special therapy treatment programs designed to help in the development of a child’s social interaction and communication skills.
“Salud es Vida…ˇEntérate!” is a national effort designed to raise awareness, increase knowledge and encourage positive health decision-making. The initiative utilizes Univision’s diverse media assets to educate its audience on health issues and promote primary prevention, habits of healthy living, access to care and disease-specific prevention and treatment.
