Univision 41 News Ratings to Number One in Gotham on Looming Transit Strike, Winter Storm Forecast

New York, NY -- The 6 pm local news and 6:30 pm network news on New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station, Univision 41 (WXTV) surged to number one in New York’s overnight Nielsen ratings last night on fears of a transit strike and a forecast for a winter storm.  Last night, Wednesday, December 14, the 6 pm “Noticias Univision 41” (Univision 41 News) with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller was New York’s top rated 6 pm newscast among adults aged 18 to 34 and 18 to 49 in a half-hour where its competition includes newscasts from ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and Telemundo.  It’s lead-out, the 6:30 pm “Noticiero Univision” (Univision News) with anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas was top rated in New York among all three adult audience groups, those aged 12 to 34, 18 to 49, and 25 to 54.

From 6 pm to 6:30 pm 59,000 viewers aged 18 to 34 and 190,000 viewers aged 18 to 49 watched “Noticias Univision 41” on WXTV.  WNBC took second place among the younger group with 49,000 viewers.  WABC took second place among those aged 18 to 49 with 128,000 viewers according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI) Local People Meter (LPM) overnight ratings.

From 6:30 pm to 7 pm “Noticias Univision 41” number one in all three audience categories with 87,000 viewers aged 18 to 34, 218,000 viewers aged 18 to 49, and 214,000 viewers aged 25 to 54.  NBC again was second in the youngest category at 58,000.  NBC was also second among those aged 18 to 49 with 138,000 viewers, while NBC and ABC tied for second among those aged 25 to 54 with 174,000 viewers each.

High usage of public transit by New York Hispanics may have contributed to the ratings spike for Univision in New York.
