KTVW Univision 33 is the #1 TV Station in Phoenix During July 2009 Sweep Among Key Demos, Regardless of Language

Univision Phoenix Once Again Claims Top Ratings Success for the 15th Consecutive Measurement Periods Among Adults 18-34


Phoenix, AZ -- At the conclusion of the July 2009 Sweeps, KTVW-TV Univision 33 leads all other television stations in the market, regardless of language. Results from the Nielsen Station Index (NSI) confirm KTVW-TV Univision 33’s leadership position in various dayparts among key demographic groups, including Persons 2+, Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.  Univision 33 is the only TV station in the Phoenix market that can claim #1 status for the past 15 consecutive measurement periods among Adults 18-34, 14 among Adults 18-49, and 13 among Adults 25-54.

Overall Highlights

• KTVW-TV delivered 41 of the top 50 most watched programs among Adults 18-34, 41 of the top 50 most watched programs among Adults 18-49 and 42 of the top 50 most watched programs among Adults 25-54.

• KTVW-TV Univision 33 is the most watched television station in Phoenix in Total Day (Monday to Sunday 6:00 am to 2:00 am) among Adults 18-34, 18-49, 25-54, and Persons 2+.  Among Adults 18-49 Univision 33 commands a +71% lead over the #2 ranked stations, KPNX-TV NBC 12 and KSAZ-TV FOX 10. Univision 33 is also the #1 choice among Adults 25-54 and Persons 2+, leading the second place, KPNX-TV NBC 12, by +44% and +11% respectively.

Primetime Highlights

• KTVW-TV Univision 33 is the #1 station in Primetime among Persons 2-17, Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54. Univision 33 delivers 88,000 Total Viewers on an average night. The station leads #2 ranked KSAZ-TV FOX 10 by +68% and +171% among Adults 18-34 and Persons 2-17 respectively.  Among Persons 2+, Univision 33 falls short of 1st place by only 8,000 viewers behind top ranked KOLK-TV CBS 5 and short of 2nd place by a mere 2,000 viewers behind KSAZ-TV FOX 10. 

• Among the Valley’s major broadcasters, KTVW-TV Univision 33 was one of the top two most watched stations 25 of the 28 nights among Persons 2-17, 26 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-34, 26 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-49 and 20 of the 28 nights among Adults 25-54.

• The Gold Cup Final Soccer match between Mexico and the USA was the most watched program in the entire July Sweeps among Persons 2-17, Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49. 

• On Mondays, the top four programs among Adults 18-34 and 18-49 were all on Univision 33.  “El Show de Cristina” (Cristina’s Show), “Mañana Es Para Siempre,” (Tomorrow is Forever) “En Nombre del Amor” (In the Name of Love), and “Un Gancho Al Corazon” (A Blow to the Heart) each had more viewers than CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “Rules of Engagement”, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” and “Dating in the Dark”, NBC’s “Dateline,” “Great American Road Trip” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.”


Local News Highlights

• KTVW-TV Univision 33’s “Noticias 33” (News 33) at 5:00 pm is the most watched newscast in the Valley. “Noticias 33” not only ranked #1 among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 for Early Local News at 5:00 p.m., it averaged more Adult 18-34 viewers than the combined audiences of the five other local newscasts (KSAZ-TV’s “FOX 10 News at 5,” KPNX-TV’s “12 News Evening Edition at 5,” KTVK-TV’s “Good Evening Arizona,” KNXV-TV’s “ABC 15 News at 5” and KPHO’s “CBS 5 News at 5”).

• Again at 10:00 pm, “Noticias 33” out ranks the competing local news programs with +210% rating lead over #2 ranked “KPNX-TV’s “12 News at 10” among Adults 18-34, +65%  among Adults 18-49 and +42% among Adults 25-54.
