Univision 40 and Budweiser Present “Orgullo de Nuestra Comunidad”

Raleigh, NC -- In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Univision 40 and Budweiser present the “Orgullo de Nuestra Comunidad” (Pride of Our Community) program. 

Each year, Univision 40 gives its viewers the opportunity to nominate someone that they believe is an example of excellence and perseverance in the Hispanic Community. Nine individuals were selected and have been highlighted on WUVC throughout Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th - October 15th).

This year, Univision 40 and Budweiser selected Cecilia Hurtado for her volunteering her time to assist Latinos in the assimilation process in the United States.  Ernesto Robledo, a Minister, is recognized for his commitment to the church and for emphasizing the importance of education within the Hispanic community.  Sandra Rodriguez, Assistant Director of El Pueblo Inc. was chosen for her enthusiasm and dedication to improving the lives of Hispanic families throughout the state.  Ms. Rodriguez promotinges breast cancer awareness and education as well as reading, and Dr. Enrique Coello has dedicated his life to achieve social parity and to the advancement of health and the condition of life of Hispanics in the state.  Lucy Hurley was nominated for her efforts to address domestic violence in the Hispanic
Community.  Mariana Hernandez was selected for her work with Johnston County Partnership for Children’s Hispanic Coalition helping Hispanic families access important resources and agencies.  Manuel Montano, an ESL teacher at Clayton High School, was recognized for assisting foreign students in their assimilation process, including learning English, while retaining the language and values of their native country.  Silvia Cendejas and Father Tony Rojas of the Episcopal Church for Agricultural Workers were selected together for their joint efforts in helping agricultural workers and disadvantaged Hispanics obtain basic necessities in the United States.
