Lupillo Rivera Releases “Live,” his Debut Album with Univision Records
Mexican music’s newest idol presents his anticipated live album
Woodland Hills, CA -- As 2003 comes to a close, Lupillo Rivera concludes the year with a bang as he releases “Live,” his debut album with Univision Records, which was recorded live this past August 23, 2003 at his concert at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, California. “Live” was released on November 11, 2003 in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
With an enviable and prolific career that spans a decade, and countless awards and international recognitions, including gold and platinum albums for extraordinary album sales, Lupillo Rivera joins the Univision Records family to continue his international projection and his establishment as one of the most respected and celebrated artists in Latin music.
The first promotional single from this album is the unreleased new studio track “Dame Por Muerto” (Consider Me Dead) penned by his father Pedro Rivera, a cut that closely follows the ‘banda sinaloense’ rhythms and the unique and admirable style of the new idol of Mexican music.
Comprised of 14 tracks that range from ‘ranchero,’ ‘norteño’ and ‘banda,’ music, “Live” comes to life with the first single “Dame Por Muerto.”
Surrounded by a full house at the celebrated Universal Amphitheater, Lupillo moves comfortably and with much ease between the different Mexican rhythms of ‘rancheras,’ ‘norteñas’ and ‘banda,’ corroborating time and again his unique position in the competitive world of regional Mexican music.
Among some of the ‘rancheras’ worth mentioning are the musical gems penned by world renown Mexican composer José Alfredo Jiménez “Arrullo de Dios” (God’s Lullaby), which cleverly opens the album, “La Retirada” (The Withdrawal), and the melancholic and hopelessly romantic “Serenata Sin Luna” (Moonless Serenade). In the ‘norteño’ genre Lupillo outdoes himself with “El Ayudante” (The Helper) by Oscar Manuel Gastelum, the timeless classic and new studio track “El Corrido De Lucio Vásquez” (The Lucio Vasquez Corrido) by Felipe Valdez Leal and “Se Les Peló Baltazar” (Baltazar Got Away) by Juan Villarreal.
Nonetheless, the undisputable greatness of “Live” lies with the ‘banda’ style tracks, which has been Lupillo Rivera’s trademark and the genre that catapulted his music career, establishing him as one of the most important representatives of ‘banda” music worldwide. Among some of the highlights in this genre are the new studio track and classic love anthem by maestro Alvaro Carrillo “Sabor A Mí” (My Flavor), the high energy staple of the ‘Sinaloense tamborazo’ “El Sinaloense” (The Sinaloense) by Severiano Briceño, “Bohemio De Afición” (Bohemian By Nature) by Martín Urieta and three new studio tracks in total.
“I am very happy to be part of this great label— the number one—where I am certain that I will continue growing internationally and will continue making the best regional Mexican music for my people,” stated Lupillo Rivera.
“Live” is only the beginning of a new dawn for Lupillo Rivera, the new idol of Mexican music, who up to this date continues selling out venues not only in his native Mexico but also in the U.S., the land that adopted him as one of its own when he was merely a young boy.
